![]() ![]() The guard, when he arrests Darnay, reminds Manette that the interest of the country overrules everything else. The revolutionaries sacrifice their own lives and love to bring revolution. ![]() The novel presents the need for sacrifice on personal as well as social level. ![]() Sacrifice is another dominant theme along with resurrection and an integral part of a happy life in A Tale of Two Cities. Despite his death and violence in France against and by the aristocracy, the revival of peace and better society echoes throughout the novel. His final act of the great sacrifice tells how Paris and the society in which he has shown this example will see resurrection. On a social level, the old status of France appears to give way to new France where Carton has sacrificed his life for others. The end of the novel is suggestive about him regarding his Christ-like resurrection, as he becomes an icon of sacrifice and heroism for those he has sacrificed his life for. He also saves his name with his heroic act of going to the gallows to save Darnay. The character of Sydney Carton and his death saves the life of Charles Darnay and Lucie Manette. The theme of resurrection and change is one of the major themes that seem to emerge on both social and personal level. ![]()

But, i n an interview with USA Today, James contests that The Mister makes more productive strides towards social awareness than its predecessors did, even if the designated damsel is helplessly drawn to a suave man of significant means. The Telegraph guarantees a steamy read with sexual innuendo embedded in every line, as well as a protagonist who can be involuntarily thrust into dissociative sexual fantasies with little to no prompting. Forced for the first time in his privileged life to assume responsibility (of his family’s business ventures), Maxim is immediately thrown off guard by the close company of one Alessia Demachi, his maid - and a woman we expect must be a two-dimensional, walking pair of breasts with a secret past that only matters when she is not in bed with Maxim. The Mister tells the story of a present-day, uber-horny British aristocrat named Maxim Trevelyan. James is back in the romance game with The Mister, a 512-page romantic romp through Great Britain that promises, apparently, to be better than the last. When read as a hypotextual narrative, March’s The Bad Seed has multiple, significant intertextual variations, such as Ruben’s film The Good Son (1993) and Collet-Serra’s film, Orphan (2009), which focus on the theme of the biological, non-supernatural child serial killer. Fortunately, Vladimir Voinovich was able to smuggle a microfilm of the book out of the Soviet union and it was published in Switzerland in 1980. This book was far less pro-Soviet, raised the issue of anti-Semitism and the Holocaust in a far more striking way and was not afraid to have Soviet characters who were seriously flawed. Though Stalin had died, Grossman had become more aware of his Jewishness, something he had previously been quite unenthusiastic about. In 1959, he completed Жизнь и судьба (Life and Fate) and submitted it for publication. It was not translated into English till 2019. This novel, based on Grossman’s experiences as a war reporter in Stalingrad, had considerable success in the Soviet Union, not least because it more or less toed the party line. In 1954, Grossmann published a novel based on his war experiences, called За правое дело.
